Our History

1960 - 1970

Adams was founded in 1960 by John D Adams Sr and Dorothy Adams in a back bedroom of their house not far from our current location. After serving our country honorably in the Korean War, John returned to attend North Carolina State University, his beloved alma mater. Once completing his studies, John set out to start his career in industrial Sales, covering the southeast US.

John made an immediate impact in the industry leading to multiple suppliers asking him to support their lines in Florida. John and Dorothy recognized this as an opportunity to start their own distributorship and put the plan into motion.  With little savings, a $500.00 loan, and four small children, the first years were very challenging but very rewarding.

1970 - 1990

The late 1960’s brought a new building and continued growth through the 1970’s and 80’s. Our predominate focus was on both fluid power components and systems in the phosphate, citrus, and aerospace markets. While there were many ups and downs through these two decades, our team members, vendor partners, and our customers were the difference maker in our continued success.

1990 - 2000

In the 90’s, John Adams, Jr became President and Donna Adams took over as controller from John, Sr. and Dorothy. Under John Jr’s guidance and the changing industry landscape, Adams started to pursue additional pneumatic and automation opportunities.  While remaining focused on the heavy industries that built our company, Adams entered the Power Generation market led by Reece Thompson. Knowledge gained from this industry allowed Adams to become a resource on reliability for machine uptime and performance in a multitude of other industries.

2000 - 2020

The mid 2000’s to current has brought significant change to our company and the needs of our customer base.  We have remained focused on our fluid power base while strategically adding robotic, vision, motion control and extrusion vendor partners to our offering. Kayla and Doug Adams have joined the organization and are learning everyday under John Jr., Donna, and Reece. Adams sees significant growth potential in Florida and the Caribbean in the next decade and is steadily investing in resources to help our customers compete in the global marketplace.

2020 - Current

Adams' emergence out of the COVID pandemic saw Doug Adams, III taking over ownership and control of Adams. This transitional time has been highlighted by significant investments into technology and business systems helping Adams become more efficient while incorporating automation into our internal business operations.

Adams' expands both in territory, with the addition of Alabama, and in product lines with the addition of Urban.IO, FANUC, and LMI Technologies. With a strong and experienced leadership team comprised of Jeff Fiorini, Paul Anderson, and Carlos Rodriguez, we are positioned to continue to take market share as we help our customers become more competitive in the global marketplace through increased reliability and automation.
